Abstract: |
Archaeological evaluation trenching was undertaken on land proposed for redevelopment. The site was previously evaluated in 2001 and these earlier works established the presence of prehistoric remains at the site. The 2005 evaluation comprised the excavation of a further five trenches. The results of this trenching showed that the site in one trench had been severely disturbed, probably by modern building activities. Undisturbed geological gravels were encountered in the other four trenches. In one of these trenches, located in the south-west corner of the site, probable prehistoric archaeological remains were revealed. The results of this evaluation supported those of a previous partial evaluation of the site, which found a concentration of prehistoric archaeological remains in the western third of the site.
