Abstract: |
The evaluation revealed evidence for medieval agricultural activity in the form of silted drainage gullies, some of which appeared to have been re-cut on several occasions during the middle ages. A single post hole was also identified but the lack of any associated structural debris and artefacts, suggested it was unlikely to have represented part of a former post-built building on the site. Artefacts were recovered from most of the features, and comprised of generally small, abraded pottery fragments, all of 12th- to 14th century date and were likely to have been present as a result of agricultural activity rather than medieval settlement.
