Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at a proposed development site which was partly occupied by medieval ridge and furrow. Part of a water-filled medieval moat and a bank were also present. During the evaluation, possible medieval and post-medieval boundary ditches were revealed. One contained medieval pottery, animal bone and a fragment of whetstone. A continuation of the northern arm of the moat was recorded, and post-medieval finds were recovered. Foundations relating to post-medieval farm buildings were noted. It was concluded that the site had been largely open in the medieval and early post-medieval periods, and that land in the northern part of the site had long been in cultivation. [AIP] |
