Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was carried out on a site. Material of prehistoric and Roman date had been recovered from an area to the east of the site during fieldwalking and the site was bounded on the southern side by the route of a Roman road. There was a low potential for evidence of prehistoric activity and Roman settlement within the site. Medieval settlement at Holmer was focused to the north-west and was unlikely to have encroached into the site. Any previously unrecorded archaeological remains present may have been adversely affected by previous land use, including agricultural cultivation and possible quarrying, but they were unlikely to have been completely destroyed. The field boundaries within the site retain the pattern of medieval boundaries within former open fields and were considered to have been important under the Hedgerows Regulations 1997. It was recommended that they be retained in any future development. [Au(adp)] |
