Abstract: |
Desk-based research had indicated a possibility of encountering features and finds of Neolithic, Roman and post-medieval date. The evaluation, however, demonstrated an absence of archaeological activity on the site, other than 20th century field drains cut into the topsoil, and three narrow linear features, sealed by the topsoil, and interpreted as late post-medieval or Victorian drainage gullies. The presence of the field drains, and the absence of evidence of earlier activity, suggested that the present site had always been marginal land, subject to periodic flooding. [Au(abr)] |
