Abstract: |
Four machine trenches were excavated to the south of the presumed medieval boundary of the village or manor at Broad Chalke (SAM Wiltshire 451). No evidence of medieval activity was identified within the proposed development area, but a linear ditch of possible Bronze Age date and area of formerley waterlogged deposits, possibly the remains of a natural pond, also of prehistoric date, were revealed. The lower-lying parts of the site were sealed by colluvial deposits which contained very small quantities of prehistoric worked flint. [Au] |
