Abstract: |
The renovation of two adjoining properties provided an opportunity to examine a site at the base of the old cliffs below the Western Heights, in a region which constituted part of the town centre of Victorian Dover. The investigations suggested that occupation in the area began in the late 17th-century although the extant structures were later. The beach shingle and the early cliff face found below present floors provided another useful piece of information which can be incorporated with that recorded during the construction of the adjacent A20. There was no evidence for Anglo-Saxon or medieval activity. [Au(abr)] |
