Abstract: |
A survey of the oldest wing of a farmhouse at a moated manorial site was carried out. The surviving buildings dated from the 17th-18th centuries, although the remains of a highly decorated 15th century gatehouse were encapsulated within the house. During the survey, five structural phases were identified. Documentary and architectural information confirmed that the site had been occupied since at least the 14th century, and that substantial parts of the gatehouse survived. The east wing, along with many of the barns and outbuildings, was constructed between the 16th-18th centuries, re-using architectural fragments and timbers from the earlier manorial complex.
