Abstract: |
The watching brief was undertaken during topsoil stripping and the excavation of foundation trenches for an extension to the CO-OP Funeral Parlour. The watching brief was imposed as the site lay just to the south of the core of the medieval town. The development also lay close to the site of Grimsby Abbey that was founded in the 12th century and dissolved in 1536. No archaeological features were observed during the watching brief although a brick well, which had once been inside part of the Victorian house, was revealed. A small quantity of medieval and post-medieval pottery was recovered from the topsoil. [Au(abr)] |
