Abstract: |
Records made during archaeological monitoring of site works associated with the conversion of a derelict farmhouse revealed structural evidence for a medieval timber-framed, two bay, part-open hall and cross passage. An outshot was added to the hall in the post-medieval period during which time the hall was floored, and a brick stack inserted into the smoke bay. In a subsequent phase the ground floor of the farmhouse was underpinned in brick. The date of construction for the barn and associated stable could not be ascertained with certainty but probably lay within the post-medieval period. Further ancillary features were added in the mid 19th century to create an enclosed court. The farmhouse was extended by a brick two storey wing and a kitchen range in the late 19th century. [Au] |
