Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during ground disturbance works, undertaken in relation to building refurbishment, which involved the excavation of service trenches on and adjacent to the 8th century earthwork of Offa's Dyke. A red-brown clay deposit was recorded as the upper limit of both slopes of the dyke. Artefacts found were exclusively of 20th century date. It was considered likely that the groundworks had affected only the remains of landscaping activities undertaken on the dyke during the original construction of buildings at Mercian Way in the 1920s.
