Abstract: |
A desk-based study was undertaken to assess the archaeological implications of a possible site for the proposed new Visitor Centre, over and immediately south of the A303 at King Barrow Ridge. Thirty-two archaeological sites were identified and 10 archaeological monuments could be recognized and included among them, Stonehenge Avenue, round barrow cemeteries and a linear earthwork. The study area thus contained a considerable density of monuments, although the present line of the A303 represented a major strip of archaeologically sterilized land. [AIP] |
