Abstract: |
The main aim of this study was to chart the development of the different structures and construction types recorded along the length of the leat system. Much of Bodmin leat was culverted and two basic types of construction were found: sidewalls with an arch (barrel vaulting), and sidewalls with a capstone/ lintel (rectangular cross section). Both styles of culverting were employed as a construction method since the medieval period. Some styles of barrel vaulting tended to belong to the post-medieval period, and those constructed in brick will almost certainly be of 18th- or 19th-century date.[Au(abr)] |
