Abstract: |
The assessment was undertaken prior to internal alterations to the Listed Building. It was likely that the site lay within a developed agricultural landscape during the later prehistoric periods (Neolithic and Bronze Age). Traces of land division and agrarian practices may have occurred along with activity and/or settlement sites. Although a Saxon or early medieval burial may have been recovered from the Sandy Lane barrow south east of the study site, overall the archaeological potential for this period was thought to be low. In the medieval and post-medieval period until c.1857, the site was located in arable or woodland. Past post-depositional impacts on any archaeological remains present were characterised as severe. It was considered unlikely that any archaeological remains had survived anywhere on the site. [Au(adp)] |
