Abstract: |
An archaeological field evaluation was carried out by the Oxford Archaeological Unit in advance of the determination of a planning application for residential development, at a site situated in the north-eastern part of Fenny Compton village. The area of the proposed development lay close to known areas of medieval settlement and was considered perhaps to have been situated within the medieval village of Fenny Compton. A low density of features associated with a small amount of domestic rubbish mainly of 13th-14th century date was encountered in the northern corner of the area examined. The site clearly lay outside the main focus (or foci) of the medieval village. Peripheral and very localised activity was indicated. Post-medieval use of the site is likely to have been entirely agricultural.[AIP] |
