Abstract: |
During the evaluation, medieval remains comprising pits, stakeholes, occupation layers and evidence of iron working were revealed throughout the site, with the exception of a 3 metre wide strip along the Sandford Street frontage, much of which had been cellared. The base of the medieval boundary wall at the rear of the site had survived; this probably represented the precinct wall of the friary. The medieval pottery was of some interest, as relatively little was known about the ceramic traditions of south-east Staffordshire. Post-medieval deposits included garden soils, a well, walls and building debris. [Au(adp)] |
