Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in advance of a proposed residential development. Two trenches were excavated and revealed evidence for an early medieval sequence of surfaces, structures and cut features alongside Beverley Beck. This included evidence for a wharf and associated structures, clay extraction and a large pottery assemblage. A subsequent watching brief was undertaken (included in this report) which confirmed the broad sequence of deposition across the site and also revealed a NNE-SSW aligned ditch of late medieval or early post-medieval date near Waterside, but possibly continued northward to join the Beck near the north-east corner of the site.
