Abstract: |
<summary>A watching brief was carried out on footings for a rear extension. The site of {italon}Hamwic{italoff} (650-850 AD) lies nearby. A linear feature which cut the natural brickearth may have been an agricultural ditch, associated with the medieval or post-medieval soil that sealed it. An alternative possibility is that it was contemporaneous with the Middle Saxon settlement of {italon}Hamwic{italoff}, although if so it would have been expected to contain artefacts of that date. {italon}AIP{italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} SOU 520 (Southampton City Council, Heritage Management investigation identification no) |
