Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during excavations associated with the construction of a sewage pipeline and treatment works, in an area which lay close to the site of a Saxon burh, a Scheduled Ancient Monument. Peat deposits had also been recorded in the vicinity. During the watching brief, a stone culvert which was probably of 19th century date was observed. This had been replaced by a relatively modern ceramic-pipe culvert which linked two ditches. A ditch of unknown date, probably a field boundary ditch, was also recorded. It was recommended that a further watching brief should be carried out during the subsequent removal of disused septic tanks, due to their proximity to the Scheduled Ancient Monument. [Au(adp)] |
