Abstract: |
A watching brief was undertaken at St Michael's Church during the excavation of three trial pits in advance of building work for Dewsall Parish Council. The trial pits against the north wall revealed one stone coffin lid dating to the 19th century and a considerable quantity of stone and slate rubble, presumably associated with previous construction or repair. The trial pit against the east wall revealed a quantity of large broken stone fragments just below existing ground level. All the trial pits showed that the church walls had been underpinned with concrete.[AIP] |
