Abstract: |
A topographical survey was undertaken of earthworks in a field on the western edge of the village of Granborough in advance of possible disposal of the land for development. The earthworks were interpreted remnants of earlier elements of the village, consisting of several house platforms/building plots, set out on a probable east-west lane. Study of aerial photographs suggested the possibility that the building plots may originally have continued further west. The east-west axis of the settlement appeared to have declined in importance, with the development of a probable open area or green. The 'green' had subsequently contracted in size, and it seemed likely that at about that time Hogshaw road came to occupy its present position. [Au(adp)] |
