Abstract: |
The gradiometer survey detected several anomalies, the strongest of which were caused by non-archaeological features; a water main and agricultural machinery. Strong, linear responses caused by ridge and furrow ploughing were seen in the two fields north and east of the farm. Weak, linear anomalies, which may have formed part of an enclosure, were seen in the most westerly of the three fields. The magnetic susceptibility data showed that the two fields which had been subjected to ridge and furrow ploughing regimes had much lower susceptibilities than the field containing the possible enclosure. The enhanced readings in this field may have been caused by the dumping of spoil generated by the outcropping of coal earlier this century. [Au] |
