Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment, undertaken as part of an undergraduate dissertation (BA), was produced with the aim of collating all the known information about the site, an Iron Age Hillfort known as Ravensburgh Castle, and placing the site in context within the Iron Age landscape, both regionally and nationally. The report outlined excavations undertaken in 1940,41, 1964, 1970 and 1972 to 1975, some of which had been previously unpublished, and a basic analysis of the animal bones and finds was undertaken. The author outlined the phases of construction of the site and it's position within the local landscape and compared their own views on the function of the site and those of Dyer, one of the original excavators.
