Abstract: |
An archaeological assessment was undertaken on an area of proposed quarry extension. There was some evidence of prehistoric, particularly Bronze Age, occupation, in the form of burials, enclosures and boundaries, and there was a strong possibility that more features remained to be discovered. The medieval landscape was richly represented by the remains of open fields, shrunken or deserted villages, and an important church site. The industrial period was represented by rock and coal extraction, and railway building. [Au(abr)] |
