Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during the excavation of a series of open pits, prior to the laying of a pipeline using the directional drilling method, which removed the need for continuous open cut trenching. The site lay within an area of archaeological interest defined by the county SMR. No artefacts or environmental remains were located, but it was noted that the ground level had been artificially built along the route, and that this would have created conditions for the preservation of archaeological deposits, as a remnant ploughsoil observed within one of the pits indicated. It was concluded that further archaeological deposits could have remained undetected in the vicinity. [AIP] |
