Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment was undertaken prior to the proposed development comprising a new basemented office/business centre. The site was thought to have a low archaeological potential for all past periods of human activity, except for late medieval and early post-medieval periods of landfilling of quarries. In particular, on the basis of available evidence, the site was not considered likely to contain remains relating to a documented medieval windmill, post-medieval chapel, post medieval windmill, London's Civil War defences or to a plague pit of 1665. The survival of archaeological deposits on the site was thought to have been due to the cumulative impact of past land use and previous development. [Au(adp)] |
