Abstract: |
Archaeological evaluation of an area to the north-west of St. Chad's Church revealed a number of burials. Two sherds of 13th century pottery were found in one of the grave fills. This area was included in the churchyard only in the early 1970s, previously it had belonged to the adjacent Church Farm. The presence of the burials suggested that the medieval churchyard was larger or possibly that this area had been used for burials that were unacceptable within consecrated ground. [Au(abr)] |
