Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in advance of a proposed residential development. 19 trenches were excavated which revealed residual evidence of the Mesolithic, Roman, medieval and post-medieval periods in the vicinity. A single post-medieval ditch represented the only in situ archaeology within the site. Of particular importance was the recovery of a Mesolithic flint tranchet axe/adze 'Thames Pick' found within a layer of brick-earth redeposited or reworked some time during or after the Roman period.
