Abstract: |
The archaeological desk-top study and walk-over survey recorded that much archaeological research had taken place in the vicinity of Wintringham and significant remains had been found ranging from the prehistoric to the medieval periods. However, the existing burial ground was likely to have disturbed the underlying archaeological levels to some considerable depth. It thus seemed unlikely that any significant archaeological disturbance would be caused by the remedial work to the church, although burials and below-ground elements of the church structure could be encountered. The recommendation of the report was to record the existing church fabric in advance of refurbishment, for any ground works to be monitored and for any burials encountered to be dealt with appropriately.
