Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during groundworks associated with the construction of a hard surface tennis court. The site was archaeologically sensitive, lying within the late Saxon and medieval core of the village and near to Roman remains. During the course of the investigation a probable fishpond was recorded. Pottery of 19th century date was recovered from the topsoil. Two fragments of Romano-British tile and brick represented the earliest artefacts recovered and may have derived from a villa site identified to the southwest of the development area. [Au(abr)] |
