Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken across the site which had been in use as a covered car park until recently. Two trial trenches were excavated, the first, 6m by 6m, was located at the north end of the present building. The second trench, 10m by 6m, was located at the southern end of the building, roughly parallel with the line of Briset Street. The excavation was carried out to a maximum depth 2m below the present ground surface. 18th and 19th century structures were found to have caused the total destruction of archaeological deposits to at least this depth.
