Abstract: |
A study of watermills on the rivers Leen and Erewash was undertaken to guide the long-term management of the rivers. Although documentary research identified a number of watermills operated on the rivers since the late 11th century, the precise location for many could not be established, either as a result of a lack of information or due to confusion over their names. Surviving leats were identified as Lovatts Mill, Radford; Forge Mill, Bulwell; Grange Mill, Hucknall; Moor Pond Wood; Walk Mill; and Newmanleys Mill. The remains of the watermills at Castle Mill on the River Leen and Newmanleys on the River Erewash were identified as potential sites for public interpretative works. [AIP] |
