Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out in advance of the building of a new school hall. At least two phases of archaeological features were noted beneath the topsoil. The earliest features were a north-south ditch and a pit cutting natural clay, which were both undated. A large pit dated to 1200-1300 cut these features, and was backfilled with a large amount of charred cereal grains. An adjacent north-south ditch was thought to be contemporary with this. The archaeology seemed to represent back plots to houses fronting the roadway to the nearby moated manor site. The land was under post-medieval ridge and furrow that was removed when the school was built. [Au(abr)] |
