Abstract: |
The only archaeological features encountered during the evaluation excavations consisted of layers of apparently dumped material. It was likely that this material derived from the 19th century groundworks, and may well have been related to the insertion of steps and walls to the west of the church. The presence of sherds of 16th century pottery suggested that there was a dwelling or other building nearby during this period. The concentration of human bone denoted that there were burials beneath the path on the south side of the church. The recovery of struck flint indicated that there was prehistoric activity in the vicinity. [Au(abr)] |
