Abstract: |
Geophysical survey and fieldwalking were carried out at the proposed site of a side road re-alignment associated with widening of the M1. The geophysical survey demonstrated the presence of a number of ditches and pits in the eastern corner of the field. Elsewhere, traces of field drains or ridge and furrow and an extant field track were recorded. During fieldwalking, five pieces of iron slag and seven fragments of struck flint were recovered. It was concluded that the absence of finds in the ploughsoil was likely to indicate that the site had remained relatively undisturbed by recent agricultural practices. Trial trenching was recommended. [AIP] |
