Abstract: |
Monitoring was carried out on the laying of replacement lighting for the Abbey Gate in Bury St. Edmunds. Peg tile and flint and mortar foundations were revealed. The foundations seemed very substantial for a simple wall which raised three immediate possibilities; either there had been a building on this spot which had been demolished, or the pavement level had been raised, or there was a substantial wall across the front. The third option seemed most likely although was unproven. [Au(abr)] |
