Abstract: |
<summary>A watching brief was carried out following the discovery of a well during building work to underpin number 4 Orchard Place, Hexham. A massive double capstone in two halves was uncovered, with a hole in the centre for a lead pipe. The well was stone-lined and 4.1 metres deep. The bottom was constructed out of a single piece of sandstone. Maps dating to 1853 did not show the well, so it was already out of use by then. {italon}Sec(adp)(11b){italoff} {italon}SMR Primary Record Numbers:{italoff} 5225 ({italon}nb{italoff} old number) |
