Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken during the installation of a toilet within the western end of the church and associated drainage works under the pavement to the west and south of the present churchyard. The site lay within an area of Special Archaeological Priority and an archaeological watching brief was required as a condition on the planning permission. Four trenches and two test pits were investigated, which revealed evidence of a succession of medieval and post-medieval road surfaces, an associated post-medieval ditch and the original extent of the 18th century southern churchyard wall and western gateway.
