Abstract: |
An evaluation was carried out at the proposed site of a residential development. An earlier desk-based assessment had identified a potential for archaeological remains associated with possible medieval occupation at the site, in the form of a croft. The evaluation trenches revealed post-medieval features, comprisig a pit, a ceramic land drain and imported dumps of material derived from the demolition of a brewery on the south side of Marsh Lane. Post-medieval pottery, tile fragments and a clay pipe stem were recovered. It was concluded that further archaeological work in connection with the proposed development would not be warranted.
