Abstract: |
Of the four trenches excavated on the site, Hadrian's Wall was identified in trench two in the south-east of the site, 2.3m below the present ground level. This was overlain by a demolition layer containing material from the core of the wall., and a medieval plough soil. The remains of post-medieval buildings and a large infilling of 19th century material, possibly of the River Swerle were also discovered. Modern demolition and levelling layers were identified across the site. [Au(adp)] |
