Abstract: |
A watching brief was maintained during the cutting of a new sewer trench at the site of Nafferton Hall (SAM Humberside 169). The position of the moat was clarified and part of an external bank identified. The moat was found to have been infilled with material originating from the southern extent of the external bank which pre-dated the insertion of land drainage tiles along the line of the moat and post-medieval surfacing was identified which had been laid to permit access for cattle to Nafferton Beck. The earthworks were observed to have been removed in the north part of the site, and earthwork traces on the edge of the moat platform were noted. [Au(adap)] |
