Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was undertaken for an area of land to the rear of Moorgate proposed for a supermarket and associated car park and petrol-station development. The study suggested that the Moorgate Area of East Retford developed as a post-medieval suburb with most of the activities concentrated on the roadside. Tanneries, ironworks and maltings gradually appeared, although modern development was identified as having obliterated most of the 19th century remains of these industries. [AIP] |
