Abstract: |
The geophysical evaluation (magnetic scanning followed by targeted detailed survey) of 8 hectares of arable farmland off Austhorpe Lane on the outskirts of Leeds suggested that the multi-period activity identified adjacent to Austhorpe Hall, immediately to the north, during previous evaluations does not appear to extend into this site. Indeed apart from confirmation that ridge and furrow ploughing extends across the whole of the site the survey has not identified any anomalies of probable archaeological interest. Several discrete areas of magnetic enhancement were thought to be due to modern activity although an archaeological origin cannot be completely dismissed. [Au] |
