Abstract: |
An archaeological desk-based assessment and geophysical survey were undertaken in connection with a proposed development of about 1.43ha. The proposed development site was located to the south of the village of Syston. It lay in an area of extensive prehistoric and Romano-British activity, focussed on the River Soar which lay 1.5km to the west. In the immediate vicinity of the proposed development site Neolithic and Bronze Age settlement, Bronze Age burial mounds, Iron Age features and settlement, and Roman settlements had all been identified. The closest of these features was 150m to the west of the proposed development site. Within the site no features of archaeological significance were identified, other than evidence for medieval ploughing. The site was now considered to have a Negligible Archaeological Potential.
