Abstract: |
The watching brief was carried out during excavations for an extension at a site, which contained part of a medieval moat. A 19th century rubbish pit was noted, and part of the moat was revealed. Refuse appeared to have been tipped into it in the 19th century. It was not clear whether an area within the moat had been excavated prior to the deposition of rubbish, or if the rubbish had been tipped into the original moat. A lack of stratigraphy at the side of the moat suggested either that the platform had been truncated, or that levels of activity at the east end of the platform had been very low since construction of the moat.
