Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out during road construction in advance of a residential development. Numerous cropmarks of circular, rectangular and square enclosures thought to have been of prehistoric date, ring ditches and other cropmark features had been recorded in the surrounding area. The line of a disused railway crossed the northern part of the site. During the watching brief, a layer of scalping associated with the former railway and a post-medieval or modern land drain were observed. Two sherds of post-medieval pottery, three fragments of undated ceramic building material and three pieces of vitrified stone were recovered. The stone was probably imported material related to the construction of the former railway line. [AIP] |
