Abstract: |
A watching brief was carried out for the National Trust at Dapdune Wharf to watch soil stripping between the river's edge and a barge, placed beside the river for display. Following the removal of thin layers of rubble, organic silty layers were exposed that coincided with similar layers containing structural timbers found in 1995. Further evidence of surviving wood was observed at the top of undisturbed levels suggesting that features found in 1995 continued into the area below the soil stripping. In view of the continuing evidence for relatively good survival of remains in the area it was recommended that any future opportunities to examine the archaeology of the wharf area should not be missed.
