Abstract: |
A desk-based assessment was carried out on a plot occupied by 'Meadowcroft' and a former Methodist Chapel, both now converted to office use. Very little data was available for earlier periods in the vicinity but there was good documentary evidence, supported by recent archaeological findings, that Chesterton was a thriving settlement from the late 11th century onwards. The site appeared to have lain just outside of the main area of medieval settlement activity, though it was possible that ancilliary aspects of the priory Grange, located less that 100m away, extended into the area.
