Abstract: |
An archaeological watching brief was undertaken to address the condition relating to archaeology attached to the planning permission obtained to redevelopment the site. The application was for the demolition of the warehouse and hard standing on the site, and the subsequent construction of another warehouse with hardstanding and a car park. The groundworks were relatively limited in area in relation to the total area of the site and the new building would be built on concrete pads cut through the existing concrete. No features or finds of any archaeological significance were identified, although some variation in the topographical features across the site was noted, indicating a more marshy subsoil on the western side of the site than the eastern, and areas of heavy modern disturbance and contamination were also broadly identified.
