Abstract: |
An archaeological evaluation was undertaken in connection with the proposed development of the site involving the construction of a number of dwellings. Four trenches were excavated which revealed a series of post-holes and a single ditch. The only dating evidence was a piece of clay pipe stem from a post hole, and it was possible that these features therefore related to fairground structures. Circumstantial evidence, however, suggested that the ditch may have been prehistoric and it was therefore possible that the postholes were also of early origin. A palaeochannel crossed part of the site and may also have been connected with prehistoric activity. [Au(abr)] |
